On Friday, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, and his Algerian counterpart, Sabri Boukadoum, discussed by phone the settlement in Libya, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The statement added that Lavrov stressed the importance for the parties to the conflict to show restraint, abide by the ceasefire, and resume the negotiation process under the auspices of the United Nations.

Russia calls for achieving a sustainable settlement for this long-standing conflict based on basic principles, and rules of international law, including the United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Last week, Lavrov has said that Moscow hopes that the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) will succeed in achieving a real lasting settlement to the crisis in Libya.

In press statements, Lavrov said, “We hope that the ongoing Libyan dialogue in Tunisia results in outcomes that are valid, and able to be implemented on the ground. We are calling on its participants to put the interests of the Libyan people above the narrow-party, and regional considerations.”
