On Sunday, the Tunisian Prime Minister, Hichem El-Mechichi, announced that it was decided to keep the borders with Libya and Algeria open, “whatever the circumstances.”

El-Mechichi addressed Tunisian MPs in a plenary session on the 2021 draft budget and stressed the fact that the fate of Tunisia, Libya and Algeria is a common fate.

The Tunisian President, Kais Saied, has repeatedly expressed his country’s support to the Libyan people, and called for resolving the crises in the war-torn country. Saeid also emphasized the need to “end nearly a decade of chaos and bloodshed in Libya.”

Tunis hosted the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) in early November. During the forum, Libyan rivals came face to face and decided to hold presidential and parliamentary elections on December 24, 2021. The participants at the LPDF numbered 75 and were approved by the United Nations.
