The Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, affirmed that there is an urgent need for concrete measures aimed at favouring sustainable solutions to end the Libyan crisis.

In his closing speech to the Rome Mediterranean Dialogues, Conte added that the recent encouraging progress on the security, political and economic tracks will lead to the completion of the roadmap that Libyans have themselves drawn up. He noted that they have drawn up this roadmap for the renewal of national governance and a unified reconstruction of the country, without external interference.

Conte stressed that this should be implemented within the framework of the Berlin Process and under the auspices of the United Nations.

In another context, the Italian Prime Minister denied the existence of any military solution to the Syrian crisis. He stressed the need to start a political process led by the United Nations in Geneva with the support of the international community.

He said that Syria is still living in a serious state of instability and suffering from one of the most serious humanitarian crises in the last few years.
