Abu Dhabi hosted high-level talks between Libyan interim Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbaiba, head of the Government of National Unity (GNU), and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as the two leaders reviewed bilateral relations and explored ways to strengthen cooperation across a range of sectors.
The discussions focused on expanding economic and investment cooperation, with both sides emphasizing the importance of building stronger partnerships that support the mutual interests of Libya and the United Arab Emirates while contributing to economic development and prosperity for both countries.
Sheikh Mohamed and Dbaiba also exchanged views on many regional and international developments, including the situation in the Middle East and ongoing efforts to promote lasting peace, security, and stability throughout the region. The two leaders stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation in addressing regional challenges and advancing shared interests.
The meeting was attended by several senior Emirati officials, including Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Adviser to the UAE President; Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State; Ali bin Hammad Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for National Security; and Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the President’s Office for Strategic Affairs and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, along with other senior officials.
Dbaiba’s visit comes amid growing diplomatic activity surrounding Libya’s political process. International engagement has intensified following the announcement of a US initiative led by Massad Boulos, senior adviser to US President Donald Trump for Arab Affairs, the Middle East, and Africa.
The initiative is intended to complement the United Nations-led political process by supporting the reunification of Libya’s institutions and helping create the conditions necessary for holding national elections.
