Turkey Provides GNA Navy with Military Equipment

The Turkish Ministry of Defence signed a new military agreement with the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), under which it is to provide 47 military materials that remain undisclosed.

According to a statement by the Turkish MoD on its Twitter account, the agreement stipulates Turkey will provide the military equipment needed by the GNA’s Naval Forces Command. It indicated that the agreement was signed inside the Turkish embassy in Tripoli, with the participation of officials of the GNA’s Ministry of Defence.

Supplying the GNA navy with military materials is in breach of the UN arms embargo on Libya, the Berlin Conference, and the ceasefire agreement. This reflects Ankara’s intentions to support and strengthen the GNA, in order to implement its own ambitions in the country.
