The European Union reiterated its full support to the call made by the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, to end the fighting in Libya and focus on the greater threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Italian publication Aki, the EU has been in contact with various parties involved in conflicts throughout the world. This is to facilitate the de-escalation of hostilities and bring an end to military operations in countries such as Libya and Syria. The EU has not commented on the humanitarian truce being broken and the recent fighting taking place in Libya.

Peter Stano, the European Commission’s (EC) chief spokesman on foreign and security policy, confirmed that the European Union has made several diplomatic steps over the past week, in cooperation with international partners, to bring an end to the fighting in Libya. Stano claimed that the conflict in Libya is one of the top priorities on the Commission’s agenda.
