On Monday, the Italian news agency Nova reported that the Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, is on an official trip to Rome for talks with senior officials.

Al-Sarraj had recently visited Rome along with his deputy, Ahmed Maiteeq. During which, he met with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, and Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio.

The two parties stressed the importance of the upcoming elections for the stability of the country. They also discussed the implementation of a number of agreements, such as the refurbishment of the coastal road between Ras Ajdair and Imsaad, and the resumption of flights between Libyan and Italian airports.

Last month, the GNA’s Minister of Defence, Salah Al-Din Al-Namroush, signed a joint military agreement with Italian authorities to “cooperate in the fields of training, military education, exchange of expertise, support, development, maintenance and consultations, as well as cooperation in the fields of illegal immigration, land and sea border security, ammunition, mine disposal operations, and relief operations in cases of natural disasters.”
