The Office of the Libyan Minister of State for Displaced Affairs and Human Rights announced three initiatives for internally displaced persons (IDPs). They included health care projects for three cities in the East, West and South, and capacity-building programs for displaced workers, with support from the private sector.
This came during a workshop organized by the Office of the Minister of State for Displaced Affairs and Human Rights, entitled “The Role of Small and Micro Enterprises in Improving Economic Opportunities for Internally Displaced Damilies.” The workshop was organised in cooperation with the Office of the Minister of State for Economic Affairs and the Department of Private Sector Development and Investment at the Ministry of Economy, as well as businessmen councils, and a number of civil society organisations.
In a speech during the workshop, the Minister of State for Displaced Affairs and Human Rights, Ahmed Abu Khuzam, praised the efforts made to support the IDPs to contribute to alleviating their suffering and shed light on their issues. He also praised the participation of experts and economic advisors from government sectors, along with the private sector, and businessmen councils in Libya.
Last month, the Deputy Head of Libya’s Presidential Council (PC), Abdullah Al-Lafi affirmed that the national reconciliation process was paying special attention to those displaced from across the country. He added that the initiative seeks to find solutions for “their return to their homes, villages, and cities, until security, stability and civil peace returns to all cities of Libya.”
This came during his meeting with members of the High Council of State (HCS), in the presence of the Minister of Social Affairs, Wafa Abu Bakr Al-Kilani. They discussed a number of issues related to national reconciliation, according to the media office of the Presidential Council.
They also spoke about the situation faced by IDPs in the eastern region, and ways to overcome their difficulties and obstacles. Additionally, they exchanged ways to work on protecting their administrative and financial rights, in coordination with the competent authorities. The issue of prisoners was also discussed during the meeting. Al-Kilani pledged “to solve all the problems and obstacles facing the displaced.”
