The media office of Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA) announced the arrival in Tripoli’s port of the first cargo ship coming from the Tunisian port of Sfax. The ship carried 134 containers to Tripoli on Sunday.

The new shipping route aims to facilitate Tunisian exports of foodstuffs to Tripoli and enhance trade between Libya and Tunisia, according to the media office’s statement.

The ship’s arrival was a coordinated effort between the Ministries of Economy and Trade in both Libya and Tunisia through the Joint Chamber of Commerce and the Maritime Transport Administration of the two countries.

The Tunisian Ministry of Transport and Logistics previously announced the launch of a new direct cargo shipping line between Tunisia’s Sfax and Libya’s Tripoli ports.

The Ministry said in a statement that an agreement was reached with one of the maritime carriers to transport Tunisian exports from the port of Sfax to the port of Tripoli.
