On Tuesday, the Spokesperson for the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, stated that Russia was still in contact with both warring sides in Libya. He pointed out that Russia believes the only route to peace is through political and diplomatic communication between all actors.

“We believe that there are no other ways to resolve the Libyan problem,” said Peskov, adding that “Russia remains in contact with all participants in the Libyan process.”

The ‘RIA’ news agency, quoted a foreign ministry source that said Russia was surprised by Khalifa Haftar’s power grab on Monday.
