Libyan security forces arrested an Egyptian woman accused of stealing 1.3 million dinars, in the city of Benghazi.

The Benghazi Security Directorate said in a statement on Monday that the accused, M.S.A. “stole the money and then set fire to the apartment to hide the traces of her crime.”

The Investigation Department “collected information about the residents, and suspected the Egyptian woman after she suddenly became rich.”

The results of the investigations revealed that the woman was “spending the money lavishly and bought a new house valued at 200,000 dinars. She also bought jewellery for 3,800 dinars.”

Security forces raided the apartment of the accused, and found 156,000 dinars in a laundry basket, according to the statement.

She quickly admitted that she had entered the victim’s apartment, and made copies of the keys. As well as adding that she entered the apartment, stole the money that was hidden in the bedroom, and set fire to the apartment.

She also said that she had bought real estate in Egypt.

The total money that was returned to the complainant is 286,000 dinars, the statement concluded.
