Libyan Parliament Speaker, Ageela Saleh accused several countries of trying to spoil any Libyan-led consensus, that does not achieve their interests.
During the Parliamentary approval session on the 2022 budget, Ageela Saleh said that the Fathi Bashagha government was granted confidence in accordance with the constitutional declaration, and based on a Libyan-led consensus. He stressed that “no party has the right to object to the government, or prevent it from carrying out its work.”
“There is an intention by local and international parties to prolong the crisis. We were surprised by international parties that only support agreements that support their interests, and seek to sabotage any Libyan-led agreement,” Ageela Saleh said.
Saleh added that the Bashagha government is able to remove force majeure that hindered the holding of the elections on 24 December 2021.
“The Bashagha government is the replacement to the outgoing government led by Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba who spoiled the political, social, and security climate,” Ageela Saleh said. He also accused the Dbaiba government of not intending to hold elections, which Libyans hope will end the crisis.
Saleh pointed out that the continuous flow of illegal money enabled outlaw groups to control Tripoli. He urged all parties to avoid returning to conflict and fighting.
Ageela Saleh also added that it is not possible to hold elections or provide guarantees of their integrity and acceptance of their results, given the spread of weapons and militias.
Notably, the Libyan Parliament unanimously approved the 2022 budget submitted by the new government, headed by Bashagha.
Spokesman, Abdullah Blaiheg said in a brief statement that the approved budget amounted to 89.68 billion Libyan dinars. He added that 98 MP’s attended the session, and voted in favour of the budget. Five others reportedly voted via a recorded voice message for the budget.
