Russian Representative To UN Says Libyan Consensus Is Needed to Implement UNSC Resolutions

On Tuesday, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, said that the flow of arms and fighters to Libya violated UN Security Council resolutions on the North African nation.

Nebenzia expressed regret for what he described as a state of deep suspicion and distrust among the parties to the conflict. He underlined that this would hinder any attempt to reach a comprehensive ceasefire in the country.

He added that Moscow was working with both sides to engage in peaceful dialogue based on political solutions, pointing out that the UNSC resolutions will be effective only after achieving harmony between all Libyan parties.

The Ambassador underscored Russia’s full support for the UNSC’s call to bring an end to the hostilities and denounced all charges that Russia was involved in fueling the crisis.
