On Friday, the Libyan Joint Operations Force announced the liberation of a woman from her captors in the city of Sirte.

The Force received a report indicating the disappearance of a woman in one of the neighbourhoods of Misrata city Thursday afternoon while driving her car. Investigations confirmed that the woman was kidnapped by a criminal gang.

Further investigations revealed the presence of the hostage in one of the suburbs of Sirte. The Joint Operations Force collaborated with the security agencies in the city to liberate the hostage and apprehend one of the kidnappers.

The search is still ongoing for the other individuals involved in the kidnapping.

The statement mentioned that legal measures have been taken regarding the incident, and an investigation report has been filed at the relevant police station.

Earlier this month, the Libyan Attorney General’s Office announced the rescue of a four-year-old child kidnapped for ransom, amounting to $100,000.

In a statement, the Office stated that upon receiving the news of the kidnapping of the child, the Investigation Authority immediately mobilised the Cybercrime and Communications Affairs Department.

“With the responsibility of reinforcing investigative measures, technical support efforts led to the identification of the perpetrator,” the statement said.

Members of the Zliten Criminal Investigation Department subsequently arrested the perpetrator and freed the victim.

Libya has been grappling with political instability and conflict since the 2011 overthrow of Moammar Gaddafi. The political landscape is fragmented, with two major factions vying for control: the GNU in Tripoli, and the Libyan National Army (LNA) in the East.
