On Thursday, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), met with a delegation from the UAE’s Global Builders Group, led by renowned Emirati businessman Mohamed Alabbar, in Benghazi.

This high-level meeting marks a significant step in the deepening cooperation between Libya and the United Arab Emirates, focusing on major development initiatives that are set to reshape the Libyan economy.

The meeting, held at the LNA’s General Command headquarters, was attended by several key Libyan figures, including Osama Hammad, the Parliament-designated Prime Minister, Benghazi Mayor Al-Saqr Bujuwari, and Major General Saddam Haftar, Chief of Staff of the Libyan Ground Forces. The discussions came on the heels of the recently signed contract for the design and execution of the Marisa Free Zone project, which is poised to become one of the largest development ventures in North Africa.

During the discussions, the parties explored a range of critical projects scheduled for the near future, reinforcing the strategic partnership between Libya and the UAE. These projects are expected to play a pivotal role in Libya’s ongoing efforts to rebuild its infrastructure and stimulate economic growth following years of conflict and instability.

The Marisa Free Zone project is central to Libya’s ambitious plans to revive its economy and modernize its infrastructure. As one of the most significant free zone initiatives in North Africa, it aims to position Libya as a key hub for regional and global trade. This project is not only crucial for Libya’s economic goals but also a testament to the growing collaboration between Libya and the UAE.

The partnership between Libya and the UAE is becoming increasingly strategic, with both nations recognizing the mutual benefits of working together on large-scale development projects. The UAE’s investment in Libyan infrastructure is seen as a key driver of stability and economic progress, providing much-needed jobs and helping to revitalize the country after years of turmoil.
