Libya’s Sirte Free Zone Authority has teamed up with Chinese tech giant Huawei to establish a Smart Port at the Sirte Commercial Port.

The collaboration aims to improve operational efficiency and strengthen connectivity with regional and global markets, according to Energy Capital Power news website.

The project is part of broader plans to introduce smart city technologies in Sirte and other Libyan urban areas.

These efforts include implementing intelligent transportation systems to ease traffic congestion, creating smart educational institutions, and promoting sustainable urban development.

In addition to the Smart Port, Huawei is advancing Libya’s digital infrastructure through other significant initiatives. This includes a 420km submarine cable connecting Derna in northern Libya to Greece, a project poised to enhance the nation’s connectivity and digital growth.

In March, the Libyan Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energies held a meeting with a delegation from the Chinese company Huawei to discuss cooperation in renewable energy fields.

According to the Ministry’s statement, an agreement was reached with Huawei to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaboration in training and adopting their equipment within the Ministry.

Additionally, they agreed to intensify meetings, encounters, and coordination to host a high-level delegation from Huawei in the coming days to present an extensive visual presentation.

The meeting was attended by a delegation from Huawei’s South Mediterranean branch, along with the Adviser to the Minister of Electricity, Abdulsalam Bushnaf, and several engineers from the Ministry.
