On Friday, the Director-General of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, Belqassim Haftar, met with Nicola Orlando, Head of the European Union Mission to Libya, and his high-ranking delegation in Benghazi.

According to the Development Fund’s media office, the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the Fund and the EU, particularly in reconstruction and development. They also discussed the Fund’s approved plans and strategies for Libya’s rebuilding efforts.

Nicola Orlando, through his account on X (formerly Twitter), described the meeting with Haftar as productive. He expressed admiration for the progress in the reconstruction of Derna and surrounding areas, as well as the ongoing development efforts in Benghazi.

Orlando noted that they identified practical ways to align EU programmes with the Fund’s vision to benefit Libyan citizens. He highlighted that reconstruction and development projects in Libya present significant opportunities for European companies, reinforcing the EU’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Libya.

This meeting underscores the potential for collaboration between the EU and Libya in advancing reconstruction projects, fostering economic growth, and addressing the needs of Libyan communities.
