Libya and Qatar have signed an updated version of their air services agreement, originally established in 2004.

The agreement was signed by Libya’s Minister of Transport, Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, and Qatar’s Minister of Transport, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, marking a step forward in strengthening aviation ties between the two countries.

According to a statement from Qatar’s Ministry of Transport, the agreement introduces amendments aimed at increasing flexibility and aligning with modern developments in civil aviation. The revisions are expected to facilitate improved coordination between the two nations in air transport policies, regulatory frameworks, and operational efficiency.

During their meeting, the two ministers discussed broader bilateral relations in transportation and aviation, exploring ways to enhance cooperation in air transport, infrastructure development, and aviation safety standards.

Strengthening connectivity between Libya and Qatar was also a key focus, with both sides emphasizing the importance of expanding flight options and optimizing air travel services.

The agreement comes at a time when Libya is working to rebuild and modernize its aviation sector after years of disruption due to political instability and conflict.

Libya’s airports and airlines are undergoing gradual improvements, with efforts to reintegrate into global aviation networks. The collaboration with Qatar, a country known for its advanced aviation industry and home to one of the world’s leading airlines, Qatar Airways, is expected to bring valuable expertise and investment opportunities to Libya’s aviation sector.

By modernizing the agreement, Libya and Qatar aim to create a more efficient and competitive aviation environment that benefits passengers, airlines, and the broader economy.

This step paves the way for increased cooperation in areas such as air traffic management, safety regulations, and technical training, ultimately contributing to the overall development of the aviation industry in both countries.
