More than 42,530 Libyan citizens from the southern region have registered for the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage lottery, according to the regional coordinator for Hajj affairs in southern Libya.

The official, Muftah, stated in a press release that only 369 pilgrims will be selected through the lottery system from various areas, including Sabha, Ghat, Ubari, Al-Shati, Al-Bawanis, and Murzuq.

Data from the General Authority for Hajj and Umrah Affairs revealed that a total of 1,084,325 Libyan citizens have registered for this year’s Hajj draw. Among the applicants, 617,709 are male, while 466,616 are female. Additionally, 227,919 applicants are aged 60 years or older.

Hajj Demand in Libya Surges

The high number of registrants underscores the deep spiritual significance of Hajj for Libyan Muslims. The annual pilgrimage, one of Islam’s five pillars, continues to attract large numbers of hopeful pilgrims despite economic and logistical challenges.

The selection process, managed through an electronic lottery system, ensures transparency and fairness in choosing eligible candidates. Successful applicants will embark on their sacred journey to Mecca, fulfilling a lifetime religious obligation.

Growing Interest in Hajj Amid Limited Quotas

Libya’s Hajj registration figures highlight a growing demand for pilgrimage opportunities. However, the number of slots allocated remains limited, making the selection process highly competitive. Authorities continue to regulate the process to ensure fair distribution across different regions.

As anticipation builds, successful applicants will soon begin preparations for the pilgrimage, which requires both spiritual and logistical readiness.
