Mellitah Oil & Gas announced on Sunday that it successfully contained a hydraulic fluid leak at the eastern well complex of the submerged wells at Sabratha offshore platform, part of the Bahr Essalam field in Libya.

In an official statement, the company highlighted that the leak posed a significant threat to production operations at the eastern complex. Had it not been addressed, it could have led to a daily loss of approximately 160 million cubic feet of natural gas.

The leak also risked disrupting gas supplies to the coastal pipeline, which is a vital source for power plants and key industries, including cement factories and the Iron and Steel Plant.

Mellitah Oil & Gas praised the efforts of the management committee and the technical teams who worked around the clock to ensure production continuity and maintain the necessary gas supply for the domestic market.

The company’s rapid response underscores the importance of efficient crisis management in Libya’s oil and gas sector, which plays a crucial role in economic stability and energy security.

Libya’s offshore gas fields, including Bahr Essalam, are key components of the country’s energy infrastructure. Any disruption could have a significant impact on domestic power generation and industrial production.

Industry experts note that incidents like these highlight the need for continued investment in maintenance and monitoring systems to prevent future leaks and ensure uninterrupted gas production.
