The Libyan-Chinese Joint Economic Chamber announced that China is preparing to reopen its embassy in Tripoli within the coming days. The move signals renewed confidence in Libya’s political and security environment and reflects China’s readiness to deepen its political and economic cooperation with the North African nation.
According to a statement posted by the Chamber on Facebook on Monday, the reopening of the Chinese diplomatic mission marks a significant milestone in bilateral relations. The Chamber described the decision as a sign of international confidence in Libya’s stabilising situation and a gateway to new economic and development projects that benefit both nations.
The Chamber welcomed the initiative, calling it a “positive step” that represents a new beginning for stronger economic partnerships. It emphasised that the return of the embassy will boost commercial, trade, and investment cooperation between Chinese and Libyan companies.
“The return of the Chinese embassy is not only a diplomatic gesture but a clear indication of China’s willingness to invest in Libya’s future,” the statement said. It further noted that this development would help accelerate the implementation of strategic infrastructure and energy projects, especially those previously suspended due to conflict.
The Chamber reiterated its full commitment to supporting efforts aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries. It pledged to collaborate with public and private stakeholders to expand economic opportunities and attract more Chinese investments into Libya.
This move comes at a time when several countries are reassessing their diplomatic and economic engagement with Libya, following gradual improvements in the country’s stability.
