Preparations are in full swing for the fourth edition of the Benghazi International Book Fair, scheduled to take place in November under the theme “Reconstruction and Peace.” The event aims to convey a clear message reflecting Libya’s aspirations for a future rooted in rebuilding, coexistence, and cultural revival.
This year’s edition is held under the patronage of Field Marshal Khalifa Belqasem Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces, and supervised by the Ministry of Culture and Arts in cooperation with the Department of Moral Guidance.
The organizing committee stated that the chosen theme, “Reconstruction and Peace,” captures the critical stage Libya is experiencing and highlights the role of culture as a cornerstone in rebuilding society and spreading values of tolerance and national unity.
During a recent coordination meeting, the committee discussed the cultural program, which has been designed to align with the fair’s central theme. The program includes intellectual seminars, discussion panels, heritage exhibitions, poetry nights, theatrical performances, and interactive workshops for children and youth, all emphasizing the human and social dimensions of cultural engagement.
Committee Chairman Khaled Al-Ammami explained that this edition seeks to serve as a cultural platform supporting Libya’s comprehensive reconstruction project — “starting with building the human mind and spirit, and extending to the reconstruction of the land and community.” He stressed that books remain the foundation for any lasting peace.
The fair is expected to attract broad participation from local, Arab, and international publishing houses, reaffirming its status as a major annual cultural event in Libya and a vital space for promoting dialogue, creativity, and peace.
