Libya and Turkey have agreed to strengthen and expand their economic partnership, reaffirming their shared commitment to enhancing bilateral trade, investment, and cooperation across key sectors.
The agreement came during a high-level meeting held on Thursday, on the sidelines of the Türkiye–Africa Economic and Business Forum in Istanbul.
The Libyan delegation included Minister of Transport and Financial Adviser to the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwaij, and Libya’s Ambassador to Turkey. They met with Türkiye’s Minister of Trade, Ömer Bolat.
According to official statements, the discussions focused on strengthening the long-standing economic relationship between Libya and Turkey and building on the progress made by the Libyan-Turkish Joint Committee, one of the key institutional mechanisms for cooperation between the two nations.
During the meeting, the two sides signed a joint declaration establishing the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO), which will serve as a new platform to coordinate policies, promote mutual investments, and expand commercial exchanges.
The agreement underscores both countries’ intent to deepen economic integration and explore future opportunities in trade, transport, energy, and infrastructure.
The Libyan ministers highlighted their government’s desire to attract Turkish expertise and investment in major development projects, particularly in reconstruction, port modernization, and aviation. Turkish officials reaffirmed Ankara’s readiness to support Libya’s economic recovery and to continue playing an active role in fostering regional cooperation through trade and investment.
Both delegations agreed to maintain close consultations and regular meetings to monitor progress and identify new areas of collaboration. The discussions reflected a shared vision for a stronger, future-oriented partnership built on mutual respect, economic growth, and stability.
