Libyan authorities have intercepted four vehicles carrying 24 irregular migrants, including women and children, on the desert route linking the cities of Ajdabiya and Tobruk, the Anti-Illegal Migration Agency announced on Saturday.
According to the agency, the group had entered Libyan territory through the eastern border before being stopped by the Desert Patrol Office, which operates under the Anti-Illegal Migration Agency.
Migrants Transferred to Shelters for Legal Procedures
The agency said the migrants were transported to designated accommodation centers, where all necessary legal and medical procedures are being carried out. These include health screenings and laboratory tests prior to repatriation in accordance with national and international regulations.
Authorities affirmed that the operation forms part of a wider security plan designed to tighten surveillance across desert routes and curb the infiltration of irregular migrants into Libyan territory.
Ongoing Patrols to Deter Irregular Migration
The statement added that security patrols continue to monitor key transit routes and border regions to detect and prevent any unlawful movements. The agency reiterated its commitment to enforcing migration laws and coordinating with other national and international bodies to address irregular migration challenges while ensuring the safety and dignity of those apprehended.
This latest operation highlights Libya’s ongoing efforts to combat human smuggling and illegal border crossings amid growing regional migration pressures.
