Libya Pledges Continued Support for Sudanese Families Escaping War

Libya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdelhadi Al Hwaij, held a meeting on Thursday with Lieutenant General Khairi Al-Tamimi, Secretary-General of the General Command of the Libyan National Army (LNA), to review the situation of Sudanese nationals who have fled to Libya as a result of the conflict in Sudan.

The meeting took place at the ministry’s headquarters in Benghazi and focused on efforts to address the humanitarian and administrative challenges facing Sudanese families displaced by the war.

Al-Hwaij briefed Al-Tamimi on the ongoing work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in monitoring the conditions of Sudanese individuals and families across Libya, noting that the ministry continues to coordinate with local authorities, relief agencies, and relevant government institutions to ensure they receive the necessary support.

He emphasized that Libya is committed to offering assistance that guarantees safety, dignity, and access to essential services for Sudanese nationals seeking refuge.

Al-Tamimi conveyed the directives of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander of the Armed Forces, who has instructed the General Command to follow the situation closely, support humanitarian coordination, and facilitate the safe and voluntary return of Sudanese citizens who wish to go back to their homeland.

He stressed that Libya views Sudanese nationals as “brothers in need,” and that the Armed Forces remain ready to assist in any measures that help ease their difficult circumstances.

The discussions also covered mechanisms for improving humanitarian response, including joint field assessments, coordination with international organizations, and enhanced logistical support in areas hosting large numbers of displaced Sudanese. Both officials underlined the importance of continued cooperation to ensure that assistance is delivered effectively and without delay.

The meeting reaffirmed Libya’s commitment to maintaining humanitarian solidarity with the Sudanese people until conditions in Sudan allow for stability and safe repatriation. Al-Hwaij and Al-Tamimi agreed to hold ongoing consultations to address emerging needs and strengthen support networks for displaced Sudanese communities throughout the country.
