The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has enhanced safe sanitation for 4,519 students across Tripoli as part of its activities marking World Toilet Day. The initiative included the rehabilitation and maintenance of WASH facilities in five schools located in Tajoura and Janzour, ensuring that students now have access to proper and hygienic sanitation services.

As part of its broader efforts to expand access to safe sanitation, UNHCR also supported the installation of 27 mobile bathroom units in multiple locations across Libya, including schools, health centres, mosques, municipal buildings and other community facilities. These units have provided safe, accessible sanitation for 12,000 refugees and members of host communities.

UNHCR expressed appreciation to its international partners — including Austria, Denmark, the European Union, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Jersey, the Netherlands, Poland, the United States, the Islamic Development Bank Group and private sector contributors — for supporting the implementation of these projects.

The agency reaffirmed that improving sanitation remains essential to protecting public health and strengthening services for both displaced populations and Libyan communities.
