Libya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has held official talks with a delegation from the Republic of Niger to finalize arrangements for opening two Nigerien consulates in Libya, one in Benghazi and the other in Sabha. The discussions took place on Saturday at the ministry’s headquarters in Benghazi, reflecting growing diplomatic engagement between the two neighboring countries.
The Nigerien delegation was led by Moussa Taher, a counsellor at Niger’s embassy in Libya, who met with Ambassador Abdulsalam Al-Raqeai, Director of the African Affairs Department at Libya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The visit formed part of formal coordination efforts to prepare the administrative and technical framework required for launching the two consulates.
An official meeting was held at the ministry’s headquarters, attended by the Director of the African Affairs Department, the Acting Director of Consular Affairs, and the Director of Protocol. The meeting focused on organizational and logistical issues related to the opening of the consulates, including procedural requirements, operational readiness, and coordination between relevant departments.
Participants also discussed the expected arrival dates of the Nigerien diplomatic mission to Benghazi and Sabha, the completion of approved procedures, and the provision of necessary facilitation to enable the two consulates to begin their work effectively. Officials stressed the importance of ensuring smooth operational conditions to support consular services and diplomatic engagement.
Both sides underlined the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation between Libya and Niger across various sectors. Particular emphasis was placed on monitoring the conditions of Libyan and Nigerien communities in both countries, addressing any challenges they may face, and maintaining close coordination on issues of mutual concern.
The meeting forms part of broader efforts by Libya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to enhance African relations and expand diplomatic and consular cooperation with sister states, in line with shared interests and regional stability.
The visit followed a previous meeting held on 29 November between Libya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdelhadi Al-Huwaij and Niger’s Foreign Minister Bakary Yaou Sangaré, which laid the groundwork for advancing bilateral diplomatic coordination.
