The Libyan Supreme Judicial Council held a formal meeting at its headquarters in Benghazi, attended by the Council’s president and members, to review several agenda items related to judicial affairs and the functioning of courts and prosecution offices across the country.

In an official statement, the Council said participants reaffirmed their firm commitment to the unity of Libya’s judiciary and stressed the importance of safeguarding its independence. They emphasized the need to shield the judicial institution from any form of interference that could undermine its constitutional role in upholding justice and the rule of law.

Council members underlined that preserving judicial neutrality remains a fundamental pillar for ensuring fairness, accountability, and equal access to justice. They also highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts to confront the challenges facing the judicial system, particularly amid ongoing political and institutional pressures.

According to the statement, the meeting addressed a number of organizational and administrative files. The Council adopted several decisions aimed at supporting judicial work, improving institutional efficiency, and ensuring the smooth operation of courts and prosecution offices in a manner that serves both justice and litigants.

The Council noted that strengthening internal structures and administrative performance is essential to enhancing the effectiveness of judicial institutions and improving public confidence in the legal system. Participants agreed that sustained reform efforts are necessary to meet the growing demands placed on the judiciary.

The statement concluded by stressing that the meeting forms part of the Supreme Judicial Council’s continuous oversight and follow-up efforts to elevate judicial performance, reinforce trust in the judiciary, and entrench the principles of independence, integrity, and professionalism throughout Libya’s judicial institutions.
