A young man, identified as Mohamed Abdelsalam Ajina, was shot dead in a drive-by attack carried out by unknown gunmen in the Libyan city of Al-Zawiya, local sources reported.
According to initial information, Ajina was targeted by occupants of a dark-colored vehicle that opened fire on him near the Baghdad Market area in Al-Zawiya, west of Tripoli. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the shooting, leaving the victim fatally wounded.
Security authorities have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators and determine the motives behind the attack. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the killing.
The incident has raised renewed concerns over security conditions in Al-Zawiya, a city that has witnessed repeated episodes of armed violence and criminal activity linked to the presence of rival armed groups and the spread of unregulated weapons.
Residents in the area called on law enforcement agencies to intensify patrols and restore order, warning that continued insecurity threatens civilians and public safety in commercial districts and residential neighborhoods alike.
The killing of Mohamed Abdelsalam Ajina adds to a growing list of unresolved crimes in western Libya, highlighting the urgent need for stronger security measures and effective accountability to curb violence and protect civilians.
