Libyan officials have held a high-level security meeting to review preparations for the holy month of Ramadan, with a focus on strengthening stability in the country’s southern region. The meeting brought together Interior Minister Issam Abu Zriba, accompanied by Deputy Interior Minister Faraj Aqaim, and Sebha Security Director Khaled Al-Basta.

The discussions centered on assessing the current security situation in southern Libya and monitoring the performance of security units operating within the jurisdiction of the Sebha Security Directorate. Officials reviewed field developments and identified priority measures to maintain public order during Ramadan.

According to the briefing, the meeting focused in particular on the Ramadan security plan, including intensified security deployments and tighter control of public spaces to deter crime and prevent disturbances during peak evening hours.

Participants also examined mechanisms to provide the Sebha Security Directorate with urgent logistical and technical support to enhance its operational readiness. Emphasis was placed on strengthening coordination with the Anti-Illegal Migration Agency, the General Administration for Security Operations, and the Anti-Narcotics Agency, in order to unify efforts and address security challenges more effectively.

The Interior Minister reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the Sebha Security Directorate and meeting its most pressing needs. He stressed that increasing field operations and improving coordination among the ministry’s various departments are essential pillars for reinforcing security and stability in the south.

Officials underlined that these measures aim to safeguard citizens’ lives and property during Ramadan, a period that typically requires heightened security presence due to increased social activity and mobility across cities in southern Libya.
