From Conflict to Uncertainty: Sudanese Families in Libya’s Al-Jufra Receive Critical Aid

The Qara Afia Humanitarian Development Organization has distributed humanitarian assistance to displaced Sudanese families and vulnerable migrants in the municipality of Jufra, as part of ongoing efforts to ease growing social and economic pressures in central Libya.

The organization announced that it delivered 150 relief packages consisting of hygiene supplies and clothing bags tailored to different age groups, including children, youth, and elderly individuals. Most of the assistance was allocated to families from Sudan, along with migrants from other nationalities residing in the area.

According to the organization, the beneficiary families are registered within migrant support databases, and field teams conducted on-site visits to verify their actual places of residence before distribution.

The aid initiative comes amid increasing displacement flows into Libya following the outbreak of conflict in Sudan in April 2023. Jufra has emerged as a temporary settlement and transit point for many displaced families, placing additional strain on local services and host communities.

Yathrib Mayouf, head of Qarat Afia in Jufra, stated that the organization prioritized the most vulnerable families, especially those with limited income sources and no access to consistent humanitarian support. He noted that rising living expenses and housing pressures have intensified the hardship faced by displaced households.
