The Libyan Relief and Humanitarian Aid Authority has carried out a food distribution operation for the Sudanese community living in Benghazi, in partnership with the World Food Programme, as part of ongoing humanitarian efforts to support vulnerable families.

According to officials, the initiative provided food assistance to approximately 2,200 Sudanese families residing in Benghazi. The distribution was organised to help ease the humanitarian burden faced by displaced and vulnerable households, many of whom have been affected by the ongoing crisis in Sudan.

The Libyan relief authority said the operation forms part of broader humanitarian programmes aimed at providing essential support to communities in need, particularly foreign residents who have sought refuge in Libya due to conflict or economic hardship in their home countries.

Officials explained that the distribution included basic food supplies intended to help families meet their immediate nutritional needs. The assistance was delivered through coordinated efforts between humanitarian teams and local partners working on the ground in Benghazi.

The World Food Programme has been actively working with Libyan institutions and humanitarian organisations to strengthen food security and expand support for vulnerable populations across the country. The collaboration aims to ensure that assistance reaches those most in need while improving the effectiveness of humanitarian responses.

Representatives of the Libyan relief authority emphasised that cooperation with international partners plays a crucial role in addressing growing humanitarian challenges in Libya. They noted that the partnership with the WFP helps expand the scope of assistance programmes and allows aid to reach a larger number of beneficiaries.

Humanitarian organisations have highlighted the increasing need for support among migrant and refugee communities in Libya, particularly in cities such as Benghazi that host diverse foreign populations.

The relief authority reaffirmed its commitment to continuing humanitarian initiatives and strengthening cooperation with international agencies to support vulnerable groups and improve living conditions for families in need.
