A high-level Japanese diplomatic delegation paid a visit to the mausoleum of Omar Al-Mukhtar in Benghazi, in a gesture that underscores growing engagement between Libya and Japan at both cultural and diplomatic levels.

The delegation, headed by Japan’s Ambassador to Libya Shimmura Izuru and accompanied by Foreign Ministry envoy Rina Honda and other officials, laid a wreath at the site honoring one of Libya’s most prominent national figures. The visit carried strong symbolic meaning, reflecting respect for Libya’s historical legacy and its struggle for independence.

As part of the program, the delegation also toured the Peace Center in Benghazi, where they were introduced to key milestones in Libya’s history and the legacy of resistance embodied by Omar Al-Mukhtar. Officials at the center provided a detailed briefing on the country’s national narrative and its enduring cultural identity.

Local representatives described the visit as a sign of increasing Japanese interest in strengthening relations with Libya. They noted that such cultural engagements play an important role in building mutual understanding and opening new avenues for cooperation between the two countries.
