Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives Ageela Saleh has discussed preparations for Benghazi to host the upcoming Asian-African Parliamentary Conference, scheduled for mid-June.
The meeting was held with Saud Al-Hujailan, First Deputy Speaker of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council, and Faiz Al-Shawabkeh, Secretary-General of the Council. Talks focused on the organizational, technical, and logistical arrangements needed to ensure the success of the event.
According to House of Representatives spokesman Abdullah Blehaq, the discussions also covered coordination mechanisms between the Libyan side and the Asian-African Parliamentary Council, as Benghazi prepares to receive participating parliamentary delegations.
Saleh said Benghazi has the necessary capabilities to host the conference, pointing to the city’s security stability and ongoing reconstruction and infrastructure development.
Participants stressed that the conference would help strengthen communication between African and Asian parliaments. They also said it would support parliamentary partnership and open wider channels for cooperation and coordination among member states on issues of shared concern.
The planned conference is expected to give Benghazi a new opportunity to present itself as a stable host city for regional and international events, while reinforcing Libya’s parliamentary engagement with African and Asian partners.
