Benghazi is set to host the African Optimist Sailing Championship from 15 to 22 August, after the African Sailing and Watersports Federation officially approved the Libyan city as the venue for the continental event.

The federation confirmed the decision in an official letter sent to Libya’s Ministry of Sports and the Libyan Olympic Committee, stating that Benghazi had been selected to organise the African sailing championship for the Optimist class.

The tournament is expected to bring together several African national teams, marking an important sporting event for Libya and a major opportunity to strengthen Benghazi’s presence on the regional sailing and watersports calendar.

The Optimist class is one of the world’s most popular sailing categories for young athletes, often serving as a key training platform for future professional sailors.
