The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced that members of the “4+4 Small Convening” held a new session at the mission’s office in Tunis as part of ongoing efforts to advance the UN-backed political roadmap and support preparations for national elections.
According to the mission, the meeting focused on reviewing progress related to the first two milestones of the roadmap facilitated by the United Nations. Discussions were described as constructive and productive, with participants concentrating on constitutional and legal frameworks required to pave the way for holding general elections in Libya.
At the conclusion of the session, participants agreed to maintain what the mission described as positive momentum and resume consultations in early June as efforts continue to push forward the electoral track and reduce political deadlock.
The latest meeting follows earlier talks held in Rome on April 29 under UN sponsorship with participation from representatives from eastern and western Libya. Those discussions resulted in agreements concerning mechanisms linked to restructuring the board of the High National Elections Commission and continuing dialogue on electoral arrangements.
The UN mission said ongoing consultations aim to help establish a political and legal framework capable of supporting credible national elections and advancing institutional stability in Libya.
