The city of Benghazi is preparing to restore one of Libya’s most important commercial landmarks with the return of the Benghazi International Fair after more than twenty years of suspension.

The revival of the event reflects the city’s expanding economic activity and broader reconstruction efforts as eastern Libya continues to recover from years of instability.

According to Fouad Al-Awam, Executive Director of Libya Reconstruction for Exhibitions and Conferences and Director General of the Exhibitions and Conferences Department at the General Authority for Exhibitions and Conferences, the return of the fair represents more than a commercial exhibition. He described it as the revival of a key part of Benghazi’s economic and social identity, noting that the fair was historically linked to Libya’s trade movement and specialized business events.

Al-Awam said the exhibition remained present in public memory despite years of closure, creating strong anticipation for its return. He explained that the new edition will feature a modern concept aligned with developments in the exhibitions and conference industry, while adapting to changing economic and investment trends.

Officials believe the reopening carries important symbolic value, as it reflects Benghazi’s ongoing transformation into a center for reconstruction, institutional recovery, and commercial growth. Organizers also introduced a new visual identity and logo combining elements of Libyan heritage with a contemporary design.

The return of the Benghazi International Fair comes as the city hosts an increasing number of economic conferences, investment forums, and sector-specific exhibitions. In recent years, Benghazi has organized events related to reconstruction, healthcare, energy, entrepreneurship, technology, and real estate, attracting participation from local and international companies.
