Libya has firmly rejected any proposal to settle migrants on its territory, warning that such plans would threaten national sovereignty, social stability, and the country’s demographic structure.
Major General Salah Mahmoud Al-Khafifi, head of Libya’s Anti-Illegal Migration Agency, said the General Command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, the Libyan Government, and all components of Libyan society categorically oppose any initiative linked to the permanent settlement of migrants inside Libya.
In an exclusive statement, Al-Khafifi said Libya’s position is “clear and unchanged,” stressing that the country will not accept any project that turns its territory into a destination for migrant resettlement under any circumstances.
He added that the position is based on protecting Libya’s national sovereignty and preserving the country’s social and demographic balance.
Al-Khafifi said the General Command is following the issue closely and firmly rejects any attempt to impose solutions that could affect Libya’s national security or contradict the will of the Libyan people.
The migration file remains one of Libya’s most sensitive national issues, as the country has long been a major transit route for migrants seeking to cross the Mediterranean toward Europe.
Libyan authorities have repeatedly said that migration should be addressed through coordinated international efforts, while rejecting any approach that places the burden on Libya alone.
Al-Khafifi’s remarks reflect growing concern in Libya over proposals that could be interpreted as attempts to keep migrants inside the country permanently rather than addressing the roots of migration in countries of origin and transit.
He stressed that Libya will not accept any arrangement that undermines its security, identity, or national interests.
