Libya’s Brega Petroleum Marketing Company has announced the launch of additional fuel deliveries to the country’s southern region after a recent decline in supply levels caused by operational and logistical challenges affecting transportation and distribution programmes.
In a statement, the company said fuel supplies to southern Libya had been impacted in recent weeks by transport-related constraints and operational factors, leading to slower delivery rates across several areas served by the Sabha oil depot.
To address the situation, Brega began implementing a new supply programme, dispatching approximately 1.4 million litres of petrol and around 200,000 litres of diesel from the Zawiya and Misrata oil depots. The shipments form part of an approved operational plan aimed at supporting the Sabha depot and improving fuel availability across southern communities.
The company said fuel transfers from the Misrata and Zawiya depots are continuing, with additional shipments being sent according to operational schedules and available transport capacity. The objective is to gradually increase fuel volumes reaching the south and ease supply pressures in affected areas.
Brega also confirmed that a separate diesel shipment had been transported from the Sabha depot to the towns of Ghat and Tehala, where recent flooding and heavy rainfall affected local infrastructure and increased demand for emergency fuel supplies. The assistance forms part of broader efforts to support communities impacted by adverse weather conditions in Ghat, Tehala, Al-Awainat and Al-Barakat.
The company stressed that operational teams remain in close coordination with the National Oil Corporation and relevant authorities to enhance fuel allocations to the southern region. Priority is being given to areas that have experienced prolonged supply delays as well as locations affected by emergency situations.
Brega emphasised that fuel supply issues should be viewed within their operational and logistical context, noting that the stability of fuel distribution depends not only on the availability of fuel volumes but also on securing transportation routes, regulating station operations and combating fuel smuggling and illegal trading activities.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining fuel deliveries across southern Libya and continuing coordination with the National Oil Corporation and other relevant authorities to improve supply conditions and reduce congestion.
