Benghazi is preparing to host Libya’s first medical conference on rare diseases, bringing together doctors, consultants, researchers, and specialists from across the country in a major step towards improving diagnosis, treatment, and awareness of rare medical conditions.

The conference will be held under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Health of the Libyan Government. It aims to support specialised medical programmes, strengthen scientific cooperation, and improve healthcare services for patients suffering from rare diseases.

The event forms part of wider efforts to develop Libya’s healthcare sector and improve the quality of medical services provided to citizens. It also comes in line with the General Command’s 2030 Vision, which seeks to modernise the health sector and improve the efficiency of the country’s medical system.

The conference is being organised following Decision No. 52 of 2026, issued by the Undersecretary-General of the Ministry of Health of the Libyan Government, Abdel Salam Aqila. The decision provides for the formation of the organising committee for the Rare Diseases Medical Conference in Benghazi.

According to the Ministry of Health, the conference will provide a scientific platform for exchanging expertise and discussing the latest medical developments related to rare diseases.

The conference is expected to address several important scientific topics, including the challenges of diagnosing rare diseases. These conditions are often difficult to identify because they are uncommon and may have symptoms similar to other illnesses.

Participants will also discuss the latest scientific and medical methods used in early diagnosis and treatment, as well as ways to improve healthcare services and long-term care for patients.

The Ministry of Health said it remains committed to supporting cooperation between medical and research institutions inside and outside Libya. It said such cooperation would help transfer knowledge, exchange expertise, and strengthen scientific research in the country.

The ministry also said the event would support Libya’s position as an active host of specialised medical and scientific conferences.

The Benghazi conference is expected to be an important step in raising awareness of rare diseases in Libya. It is also expected to contribute to improving diagnosis and treatment opportunities for patients across the country, while supporting the development of more advanced and specialised healthcare services.
