Libyan MoFA Condemns GNA shelling of Tarhuna and Southern Tripoli

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of the Eastern based Interim Government issued a statement on Monday condemning the continuous shelling of civilian populated areas in Qasr Bin Ghashir and the city of Tarhuna. It claimed that the attacks were in clear violation of international law and International Humanitarian Law.

The MoFA said that the world is now focused in countering the deadly COVID-19 epidemic and requires a concerted effort of the international community to halt its spread.

This comes after the Libyan National Army (LNA) has agreed to a ceasefire and truce, to help stop the virus from being introduced into Libya, despite the Government of National Accord (GNA) militias breaking the agreement and continuing to strike civilians and civilian populated areas.

The Ministry condemns these flagrant violations of the ceasefire and calls on the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and the International Community to do so as well. It stressed the need to dismantle the militias and collect weapons for the new Libyan state.
