On Thursday, Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs in Sebha, Mohamed Ismail ordered schools to close for two weeks over the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the municipality.

Over the past few days, Libya witnessed a remarkable rise in positive cases. This is especially visible in Sebha which recorded 96 new cases over the past two days.

Earlier this month, the Municipal Council of Sebha imposed a three-day partial curfew from 6 pm until 6 am. The Council’s Spokesman, Osama Al-Wafi said that the curve of infections in Libya is escalating daily. Health officials have complained that citizens are ignoring precautionary measures, including wearing masks.

He confirmed that the isolation center in Sebha suffers from an acute shortage of medical supplies, and oxygen.

Earlier today, Libya’s National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed 23 cases of the UK COVID-19 variant, after the center tested 88 positive samples.
