Germany and France Stress Importance of Holding Libyan Elections in December

German Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, and his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, had a phone call on Saturday during which they discussed bilateral cooperation and issues pertaining to the Middle East. They stressed the importance of holding the Libyan elections as scheduled on December 24th this year, in order to advance the political process.

In a statement, the German Foreign Ministry said that the two parties also discussed the Coronavirus file and further issues related to the Middle East.

Notably, the Libyan Prime Minister-designate of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdelhamid Dbaiba, submitted his cabinet line-up to the Parliament, in a key step towards getting the approval to start running the country for a transitional stage.

The cabinet’s list of Dbaiba consists of 27 ministers and 6 state ministers in addition to two deputes for the Prime Minister.
