On Monday, the General Command of the Libyan National Army (LNA) held its first meeting at its headquarters in Al-Rajmah. The meeting of LNA officers was held under the slogan “The Armed Forces are the First Line of Defence for Libya and its People.”

According to the LNA media platforms, the meeting opened in the presence of the LNA Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant-General Abdel-Razak Al-Nathouri, and the chiefs of the qualitative staff, of “land, sea, and air.” The meeting was also attended by senior officers and directors of specialized departments, and officers of several brigades, battalions, and units.

Notably, US Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Joey Hood said that Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar was an important actor in combating terrorism in Libya. He stressed the need for Libyan parties to adhere to the ceasefire, and continue fighting extremism.

During a televised statement, Hood added that the creation of a favourable political climate in Libya will only be achieved once foreign forces and all mercenary forces are removed, in accordance with the ceasefire agreement of October 2020.
