On Sunday, the Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Mnifi held a meeting with the Head and members of the National Planning Council.

In a statement, the Presidential Council said that the meeting was attended by Deputy Head of the Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi. The meeting focused on discussing the proposed scenarios for the structure of the High National Reconciliation Commission (HNRC) and the criteria for selecting its members.

During the meeting, some mechanisms that help enable the HNRC to achieve its tasks at the level of achieving national reconciliation, were discussed.

During the meeting Mnifi stressed the Presidential Council’s focus on completing the files of comprehensive national reconciliation and reaching elections on the date set in December of this year. He also stressed the importance of unifying all institutions, working on continuing the ceasefire, and raising the level of diplomatic work abroad.

Libya has recently witnessed positive developments following a breakthrough in which rival parties agreed on a unified new executive authority on February 5th. This authority will govern Libya in the lead-up to national elections on December 24th.

Mohamed Mnifi was chosen as the Head of a three-member Presidential Council while Abdelhamid Dbaiba became the new Prime Minister.

Last month, Libyan Parliament granted a vote of confidence to Dbaiba’s government with 132 votes in favour of the 133 lawmakers who attended the session.
