On Saturday, Libya’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced that 430 health facilities across the country have been equipped for the commencement of the national vaccination campaign against COVID-19.

The Director of the NCDC, Badr Al-Najjar, stressed the importance of getting vaccinations to protect citizens from the pandemic.

Libya recorded 171,880 total cases, including 11,974 active cases, and 2,896 deaths.

Earlier, Al-Najjar said that 18 municipalities were ready to receive the Sputnik V vaccines. He added the centre has so far received 253,000 doses of the Sputnik V and AstraZeneca vaccines and is awaiting approval for their use.

Last week, the Government of National Unity (GNU) announced that the fourth batch of the COVID-19 vaccine, including 150,000 doses of China’s Sinovac vaccine arrived in Libya coming from Turkey. This brought the total number of vaccines received to about 400,000 doses.
