On Wednesday, the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar extended an invitation to the Head of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi, his two deputies, the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba, his deputies and ministers, and the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Ageela Saleh, and his two deputies to attend the LNA’s celebration of the 7th anniversary of operation Karama (Dignity), launched in 2014.
“We are pleased to invite you to attend the military parade to be held at the Benina Military Base next Saturday 29 May 2021.”, the invitation letter read.
Haftar launched his ‘Operation Dignity’ in Benghazi in May 2014, fighting an array of Islamist militants and other fighters, blamed for a wave of assassinations and bombings in the region. This has been part of a broader conflict since Libya slipped into turmoil following the 2011 fall of long-time leader Muammar Gaddafi.
