Libyan Labour Minister to Visit Cairo to Discuss Return of Egyptian Workers

On Monday, Libya’s Minister of Labour, Ali Al-Abed Al-Rida said that he would visit Cairo to discuss the return of Egyptian workers, who will participate in the reconstruction of Libya.

Al-Rida added that after the visit, he would announce the number of workers that will be allowed to enter Libya. He explained that the ministry is calculating the number of foreign workers currently needed in the country.

In May, Deputy Head of the General Federation of Egyptian Trade Unions, Magdi Al-Badawi said about one million Egyptian workers will return to Libya, as part of 3 million workers in total to participate in Libya’s reconstruction.

Egypt and Libya agreed to form a joint committee to lay down the rules governing the return of Egyptian workers to Libya. The agreement was discussed during the visit of Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mustafa Madbouly to Libya, during which he met his Libyan counterpart, Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba in April.

“Egypt has thousands of professional workers in all fields. They will use their practical and technical expertise to help Libya as soon as the agreement is activated,” said Hamdi Imam, the Head of the Egyptian Labour Recruitment Division.
