On Tuesday, Libya’s Minister of Oil and Gas in the Government of National Unity (GNU), Mohamed Aoun called on Parliament Speaker, Ageela Saleh to approve the prescribed 67% rise in the salaries of workers in the oil sector, stressing that it is a “legitimate right”

This came during a meeting between Saleh and a number of GNU ministers in Tobruk, on Monday, to discuss arrangements for approving the 2021 general budget.

In a statement, the ministry’s media office said that Aoun explained the critical importance of approving an adequate budget for the oil sector, given its extreme importance as the state’s primary source of income. He also stressed that the oil sector was in urgent need of maintenance, development, and rehabilitation programs during the coming period.

The government delegation included Minister of Finance; Khaled Al-Mabrouk, Minister of Transportation; Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, and Minister of Planning; Fakher Abu Farna.
