On Monday, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, held a video call with the Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba, during which they discussed the political process in Libya.

“I reiterated to the Prime Minister of the Libyan National Unity Government the commitment of the European Union to support the Libyan transition,” Michel tweeted.

He stressed that progress in stability and political settlement was necessary, and noted that the EU is ready to be a reliable partner for Libya in facing the many challenges ahead.

Notably, the Berlin II Conference on Libya reiterated the call for the immediate withdrawal of all foreign fighters and mercenaries from Libya.

The Conference also called for the Libyan authorities to do their part to make the December elections possible; unify the Central Bank of Libya (CBL); and ensure an equitable distribution of oil revenues.

The 58-point document is divided into six sections: Introduction, Political Process, Security, Economic and Financial Reforms, Compliance with International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, and the Follow Up.
